Key fact: the Enterprise 2021 LTSC edition has only 5 years of support (until January 2027), whilst the older Enterprise 2019 LTSC has 10 years (until January 2029). How long is it supported?

Security support for Windows 10 Enterprise 2021 LTSC ends in January 2027. This is 5 years from its release in November 2021. Microsoft reduced the support period for Enterprise LTSC (non-IoT) editions from 10 to 5 years starting with this version. Until January 2027, Microsoft will publish monthly security patches. If you need longer support on a Windows 10 base, the IoT Enterprise 2021 LTSC retains the full 10 years (until January 2032).

What is the difference between Enterprise LTSC and IoT Enterprise LTSC?

Both share the Windows 10 Enterprise base without Microsoft Store or Cortana. The key difference is support: Enterprise LTSC has 5 years (until 2027), IoT Enterprise LTSC has 10 years (until 2032). Additionally, the IoT edition includes exclusive device lockdown tools: Unified Write Filter (protects the drive against writes), Shell Launcher (boots directly into your application) and Keyboard Filter (blocks keyboard shortcuts). Enterprise LTSC is designed for office PCs, IoT Enterprise LTSC for fixed-purpose devices (kiosks, POS, signage).

Why does the 2019 LTSC have more years of support than the 2021?

Because Microsoft changed its support policy. Enterprise LTSC editions prior to 2021 (such as 2019) received 10 years of support. From the 2021 version onwards, Microsoft reduced support to 5 years for standard Enterprise LTSC editions. Only IoT Enterprise LTSC editions retain the full 10 years. If you need the most recent Windows 10 base with long support, the IoT Enterprise 2021 LTSC (until 2032) or the Enterprise 2019 LTSC (until 2029) are better options in terms of duration.

Which Enterprise features does Windows 10 Pro lack?

Enterprise LTSC includes several security and management features that Pro does not: AppLocker (advanced application control), Credential Guard (domain credential protection against attacks), Device Guard / WDAC (unsigned code blocking), DirectAccess (remote access without manual VPN), BranchCache (WAN cache for remote offices) and Windows Defender Application Guard (isolated browser). Pro includes BitLocker, Hyper-V and domain join, but not these advanced features.

Can I use Enterprise LTSC as a normal office PC?

Yes, that is its primary use case. Unlike the IoT edition (designed for fixed-purpose devices), Enterprise 2021 LTSC is intended for desktops and laptops in enterprise environments that need stability without feature updates. Bear in mind that it does not include Microsoft Store, so you cannot install Store apps directly (although you can install traditional .exe/.msi software without issues). If you need a general-purpose PC with Microsoft Store and active support, Windows 11 Pro may be a better option.

Yes. Windows 11 Enterprise 2024 LTSC is the latest LTSC version, based on Windows 11 with support until 2034. It is the best option for new deployments with Windows 11–compatible hardware (TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, 8th-generation Intel or later). For older hardware that does not meet Windows 11 requirements, the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 2021 LTSC offers support until 2032 with the same low hardware requirements as this edition.
