|---|---|---|---|
| User CAL | 1 user (from any device) | Employees use multiple devices (PC + laptop + phone) | See price |
| Device CAL | 1 device (any user can access it) | Shared workstations (kiosks, shift workers, labs) | See price |

What is new in Windows Server 2022
| Feature | What it delivers |
|---|---|
| TLS 1.3 enabled by default | Faster and more secure encryption for HTTPS, eliminating obsolete protocols (TLS 1.0, 1.1). Essential for PCI-DSS compliance |
| Secured-core server | Firmware-level protection against advanced attacks (rootkits, bootkits). Requires hardware supporting UEFI Secure Boot, VBS and HVCI |
| SMB over QUIC | Access SMB file shares over the internet without a VPN. Remote workers connect to the file server as if they were in the office |
| SMB compression | Compresses data transferred via SMB in real time, reducing the bandwidth needed for large file transfers |
| DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) | DNS queries are encrypted with HTTPS, preventing interception of DNS traffic on the network |
| Nested virtualisation on AMD | Support for nested virtualisation on AMD processors (previously Intel only), expanding hardware options |
| Improved Storage Spaces Direct (Datacenter) | Faster volume repair and improved S2D performance for hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) |
What are CALs and how many do you need?
A CAL (Client Access Licence) is an access right required by every user or device that connects to Windows Server. The server licence alone does not authorise any client to connect: you need one CAL per user or per device that accesses the server.
| Scenario | Recommended type | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 10 employees, each with PC + laptop | 10 User CALs (one per person, covers all their devices) | Typical office where each person works from multiple machines |
| 5 shared PCs used by 15 shift workers | 5 Device CALs (one per machine, any person can use it) | Factory, hospital or call centre with rotating shifts |
Important note: Server 2022 CALs also grant access to earlier versions (Server 2019, 2016), but not to later versions. If you plan to migrate to Server 2025, you will need 2025 CALs.
System requirements
| Component | Minimum requirement |
|---|---|

| RAM | 512 MB (Server Core) / 2 GB (Desktop Experience). Recommended: 4 GB minimum |
| Disc space | 32 GB minimum |
| Network | Gigabit Ethernet adapter (1 Gbps) compatible with PCI Express |
| UEFI / Secure Boot | UEFI 2.3.1c required. Secure Boot recommended for Secured-core server |
| TPM | TPM 2.0 required for Secured-core server. Recommended for BitLocker |

Frequently asked questions about Windows Server 2022
How long is Windows Server 2022 supported?
Mainstream support ended in October 2026, but extended security support continues until October 2031. This means Microsoft will continue publishing critical security patches for 5 more years, making Server 2022 a stable, proven platform with guaranteed patch coverage.
What is the difference between Standard and Datacenter?
Both editions share the same base operating system with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Hyper-V and Failover Clustering. The key difference is virtualisation: Standard allows up to 2 virtual machines (VMs), whilst Datacenter allows unlimited VMs. Datacenter also includes exclusive features such as Storage Spaces Direct, Software-Defined Networking and Shielded VMs. If you need 3 or more VMs on the same server, you need Datacenter.
Do I need CALs in addition to the server licence?
Yes. The server licence authorises you to install and run the operating system, but every user or device connecting to the server needs a separate CAL (Client Access Licence). You can choose between User CALs (assigned to people, covering all their devices) or Device CALs (assigned to machines, any person can use them). You need one CAL per user or device that connects, not per server.
Is Server 2022 still worth it, or should I go straight to Server 2025?
It depends on your situation. Server 2022 is a mature platform, extensively tested in production, with guaranteed support until 2031 and full compatibility with most enterprise applications. Server 2025 offers on-premises Hotpatch (updates without rebooting), improved Active Directory and 3 more years of support (until 2034), but is newer and some third-party applications have not yet certified compatibility. If you value proven stability, Server 2022 is excellent. If you prioritise the longest support and latest features, choose Server 2025.
Does the licence cover 24 cores or is it per processor?
Since Server 2016, Microsoft licences by physical cores. The 24-core licence covers a server with up to 24 physical cores (for example, 2 processors with 12 cores each). If your server has more than 24 cores, you need additional licences to cover the remaining cores. The minimum per server is 16 cores (8 per physical processor).
Is it legal to buy Windows Server 2022 at this price?
Yes, it is 100% legal. We sell genuine Microsoft licences under the Court of Justice of the EU ruling (case C-128/11, UsedSoft v Oracle), which establishes that reselling software licences within the European Union is lawful. You receive an official Microsoft Product Key valid for direct activation. We are a registered European company and issue an official invoice. The licence is valid for Microsoft audits.
Can I migrate from Server 2019 to Server 2022 with this licence?
Yes. You can perform a clean installation of Server 2022 on the same server or on a new one and activate with the Product Key you receive. You can also perform an in-place upgrade from Server 2019 to 2022 without reinstalling from scratch (the edition must match: Standard → Standard, Datacenter → Datacenter). If you need help with the migration, our support team assists you free of charge.
Do you deliver to Kenya, Nigeria, Indonesia or Malaysia?
Yes. We deliver digital licences worldwide by email. For Kenya we accept M-Pesa and Airtel Money, for Nigeria bank transfer and local cards, for Indonesia GoPay, OVO, DANA and bank transfer, and for Malaysia FPX and local cards — all through our secure dLocal Go payment platform. Payment is in your local currency (KES, NGN, IDR, MYR). Delivery is instant. The licence works globally with no geographical restrictions.
What extras do I need for a complete server?
For a complete Windows Server setup you need at minimum: 1 Windows Server 2022 licence (Standard or Datacenter) + 1 CAL per user or device that accesses it. If you also plan to run SQL Server databases, you will need a SQL Server 2022 licence and its corresponding CALs. If you need Remote Desktop access (RDS), you will need additional RDS CALs.
